On 3 March 2023, a crocus festival took place in Bad Honnef. Mr Habicht-Benthin invited on behalf of the Initiative Wirtschaft Bad Honnef. The Initiative Wirtschaft (IW) has been planting several hundred thousand crocuses in various places in Bad Honnef on the last Friday before the autumn holidays for several years. The IW survives solely through sponsors, whereby it is certainly worth mentioning in a particularly positive light that the Federal Association of GalaBau assumes the annual costs of the machine planting.

Certain school classes are then invited to the event and, equipped with shovels, participate energetically in the planting. Impressive planting sites are, for example, the Reitersdorf Park, Neuer Friedhof or Stadtgarten Bad Honnef with the Lion Monument. This year, the Lion Monument was the meeting point for the Crocus Festival.

The school classes that had participated in the planting in autumn could now marvel at the result of the planting. The programme included the welcoming of all guests by Mr Habicht-Benthin and various speeches by sponsors, organisers and last but not least the mayor, who praised the work of the IW and the pupils.

At the end of the event, a crocus queen was crowned and the children sang the Bad Honnef Crocus Rap and some other beautiful children’s songs with musical accompaniment by the teachers.
